ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

FULL-TIME; MARLBOROUGH, MA

As an Engineering Technician at Square Robot, Inc. you will be part of a small and talented team working on autonomous mobile robotic solutions for industrial infrastructure inspections.  In this role, you will be responsible for executing production builds of Square Robot assemblies, supporting the designs and builds throughout their life cycles, and modeling quality standards and processes for the manufacturing department.  This role will directly support and collaborate with a diverse team in designing, integrating, and testing our robotic inspection solutions.  The ideal candidate for this position is capable of executing self-directed robot production, utilizing a hands-on skill set as well as a detail-oriented and methodical mindset.  If you seek a position to thrive and innovate in a fast-paced environment as a big part of a small, cross-disciplinary engineering team, you are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Research & Development

  • Support R&D initiatives, exploring new technologies and methodologies.
  • Stay current with the latest developments and emerging technologies in your area of expertise

Solution Design & Implementation

  • Provide design for assembly (DFA) feedback during the design, development, and optimization of complex robotic systems.
  • Ensure solutions are producible and scalable.
  • Help maintain the product lifecycle system, including the tracking of End-of-Life components
  • Complete final assembly, functional testing, and ongoing maintenance of electromechanical subsystems throughout the development and life cycle phases.
  • Communicate requirements to manufacturers and suppliers
  • Participate in risk management and design control activities
  • Participate in design reviews and document development activities
  • Support the setup and execution of system verification and validation tests

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate across disciplines and departments to align manufacturing with business needs.

Documentation & Best Practices

  • Follow manufacturing best practices, standards, and documentation.
  • Write manufacturing processes, interface control documentation, test plans and reports and operations manuals

required qualifications

  • Associate of Science in Electronics Technology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in PCB assembly and rework using solder/hot air stations
  • Experience with the design and assembly of cables and cable harnesses
  • Experience with manufacturing principles and processes, especially Lean Manufacturing
  • Expert mechanical assembly experience using hand tools
  • Demonstrated advanced prototyping and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office
  • Expert literacy in electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings
  • Self-directed individual with a strong work ethic and attention to detail

PREFERRED qualifications

  • Experience with Electrical Engineering CAD tools (Altium, OrCAD, etc.)
  • Firmware development skills (C, C++, VHDL)
  • Proficiency in Github, Linux, 3D Modeling CAD
  • Experience with robotic, subsea, terrestrial, and other complex electromechanical systems
  • Versatility in other functional engineering disciplines (Mechanical and Software Engineering)

Job REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel up to 25%
  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Location

This position is available for full-time work at Square Robot’s office based in Marlborough MA.  Travel outside of the office is expected to be not more than 12 weeks annually for test events, field support, supplier meetings, team meetings, or technical conferences.

You will play a critical support role for manufacturing and operations, supporting efforts to maintain, repair, test, or operate Square Robot systems.  This may include travel to Square Robot’s facility in Houston, TX, and to job sites.

Language Skills

The candidate should be able to read, analyze, and write documents, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents.  Fluency in English is required.
