FIELD OPERATIONS ENGINEER

FULL-TIME HOUSTON, TX

Square Robot’s mission is to make oil and gas infrastructure inspection safer, faster, and more reliable through automation. We use our autonomous robots to provide API 653 and Risk Based Inspections of aboveground storage tanks. We are a Boston-based growth-stage startup founded in 2016 by marine robotics industry veterans. We’re looking for driven and self-directing team members who share our passion for autonomous systems operating in unique and challenging environments. We are seeking field engineers who are passionate about robotics and would like to help build and develop our growing, global operations team.

This position will be based out of our Houston, TX office with remote work capabilities and some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-service robotic tank inspections at customer sites including refineries, storage tank terminals, power generating facilities and other industrial locations
  • Maintain and repair autonomous inspection robot systems and related support equipment
  • Troubleshoot complex software, electrical, and mechanical issues in the field while conveying competence and confidence to our customer
  • Author detailed reports of daily activities and issues encountered in a concise manner
  • Identify operational as well as technical issues encountered in the field, communicating and working with the rest of the engineering team to arrive at a solution
  • Extensive travel, both domestic and international, extended working hours, and exposure to a wide range of weather and site conditions
  • Routinely pass periodic drug tests and safety training for site access
  • Adhere to the highest possible safety standards at all times
  • Work as a team to offer and solicit feedback and ideas to facilitate continuous improvement of our systems and processes

required qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering relevant to activities and industry or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and creatively solve problems
  • Understanding of computer networking principles
  • Ability and willingness to safely carry and handle substantial weight (50 lbs) and walk up exterior staircases to a height of 70 feet (100 steps)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience configuring and deploying robotic solutions
  • Familiarity with working on an Oil & Gas job site
  • Linux command-line competency
  • Experience designing, implementing, and debugging C++, Python code and Bash scripts
  • Prior experience in a Field Engineer role
